Frances Lavina Merrill

The passing of Frances Lavina Merrill, wife of the late Dell Raymond Merrill, occurred at the Fundy Nursing Home, Blacks Harbour, NB on April 29, 2024. Born at Scotch Settlement NB on June 28, 1944, she was a daughter of the late William G. and Myrtle C. (Parker) MacDonald.

A loving mother, grandmother, and sister, she is survived by her daughter, Faye Guthrie (Ryan McLeod) of Utopia NB; grandchildren: Melissa Guthrie (Cleveland Leavitt) of Pennfield NB and Adam (Natasha) Guthrie of Utopia NB; step granddaughter: Courtney McLeod (William Haslett) of Norton NB; great-grandchildren: J.T Leavitt, Kaylee and  Kaci Guthrie, Makenzie Comeau  and Liam Haslett; siblings: Lillian Guiggey of Presque Isle ME, Roy MacDonald, June and Phillip Yerxa both of Scotch Settlement, and Carolyn (Patrick) Lively of Ingersoll ON, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband: Dell Merrill, and first husband, Darrell Hughes; son Gregory Hughes; brothers Herman MacDonald, and his wife Marg, Sisters Bertha Foster and her husband Eastman, Betty and her husband Charlie Porter; sister-in-law Jean Mead and bother in law John Guiggey.

Frances was a hardworking homemaker, who loved to be home to take care of her family. She loved cooking and making bread. She enjoyed knitting and in her younger years she was an avid gardener and golfer. She was a proud former member of T.O.P.S and was very proud in reaching her goal. Frances loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff of Fundy Nursing home for their amazing care and compassion shown to Frances during her stay. Your hard work never went unnoticed.

Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (506-755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. A graveside service will be held at Scotch Settlement Cemetery on Saturday at 2pm with Pastor George Clarke officiating. In Frances’ memory, donations to Charlotte County Cancer or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
